Bridie Gallagher – A Mother’s Love’s A Blessing

This song is a gift to all mothers on Mother’s Day.  In Ireland it is officially celebrated on the third Sunday in Lent, but here in the states we have time to share it with our mothers because it is this weekend.  Happy Mother’s Day to all of our followers, and we hope you enjoy the day with your family.  The video is the recording by Bridie, look for another version in a later post with some beautiful scenery.

Happy Mother’s Day!!

Lyrics:

An Irish boy was leaving
Leaving his own native home,
Crossing the broad Atlantic waves,
Once more he wants to roam,
And as he was leaving his mother,
While swalking or’ the Quay,
He threw his arms around her waist
And this to her did say:
Chorus:
A mother’s love is a blessing,
No matter where you roam.
Keep her while she’s living,
Cos you’ll miss her when she’s gone.
Love her as in childhood,
Though feeble, old and grey,
For you’ll never miss a mother’s love
’til she’s buried beneath the clay.

And as the years grow onwards,
I’ll settle down in life,
And I’ll choose a nice young Irish girl,
And take her for my wife.
And as the kids grow older,
They’ll play around my knee
And I’ll teach them the very same lesson
That my mother taught to me:

Chorus:
A mother’s love is a blessing,
No matter where you roam.
Keep her while she’s living,
Cos you’ll miss her when she’s gone.
Love her as in childhood,
Though hen feeble, old and grey,
For you’ll never miss a mother’s love
’til she’s buried beneath the clay.
